Fremont, CA, March 28, 2013
Nationwide Boiler Inc. recently completed the retrofit of two 55,000 lb/hr natural gas fired boilers with a common Ammonia-Free CataStak™ selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system at the NRG Energy Center San Francisco. The SCR system utilizes Combustion Components Associates, Inc. (CCA) patented TRIM-NOX® urea injection system and is an urea based solution offered as an alternative to anhydrous ammonia. This system eliminates the need for end-users to store or handle ammonia, which typically requires a HAZMAT safety program if stored in volumes greater than five-hundred pounds.
Third party source testing of the boilers reported NOx emission limits of 1 ppm NOx and ammonia slip of less than 1 ppm NOx, easily exceeding the NOx emission permit requirement by the Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD), responsible for overseeing policies and adopting regulations for the control of air pollution within its district. Test results validate the feasibility of successfully reducing NOx in large watertube boilers through the use of a cost-effective urea injection system. The principles of operation includes utilizing the internal temperature of a boiler for proper decomposition of urea to ammonia for the conversion of NOx to the formation of harmless nitrogen and water vapor. This innovation brings to market a proven Ammonia-Free CataStak™ SCR system available for use on any size package boiler required to reduce emissions by over ninety percent.
Nationwide Boiler Inc. offers a complete line of low NOx rental boilers, mobile boiler rooms, CataStak™ SCR systems for 2½ ppm NOx compliance, EconoStak economizers for fuel efficiency, and auxiliary boiler equipment for rental, short- or long-term, seasonal, emergency use, or for sale and turnkey steam plant projects. The firm’s national headquarters are in Fremont, California with sales and service agents located throughout the world.
Combustion Components Associates, Inc. specializes in supplying in-furnace and post-combustion control technologies to reduce NOx, particulate matter, unburned carbon and CO emissions from boilers, process heaters and gas turbines. CCA’s TRIM-NOX® injection system technology provides computer controlled injection of urea for SCR and reduces NOx emissions by over 90%. TRIM-NOX® is a registered trademark of CCA.
