In July of 2006, Qatar Petroleum and Shell launched the Pearl Gas to Liquids (GTL) project; possibly the largest single project in the oil and gas industry. The project included the development of upstream gas production facilities as well as an onshore GTL plant.
The plant production was predicted to be 140,000 barrels per day of high-quality GTL fuels and products along with 120,000 barrels per day of condensate, liquefied petroleum gas and ethane. The project required steam for the deaeration of feedwater during initial steam blowing operations, estimated to take six months. The excess steam would also be used to preheat boiler feedwater being sent to in-house boiler operations.
Nationwide Boiler supplied Kentz Qatar with two 70,000 lb/hr trailer-mounted rental boilers and one 140,000 lb/hr mobile feedwater van to accomplish the task at hand. The equipment was loaded on the Mignon ro-ro ship (roll on/roll off) at the Port of Galveston, TX and was in transit for over thirty days before reaching the Doha Port.

After a long journey the equipment arrived on time and was ready for installation and service. Nationwide Boiler sent two field service technicians to Qatar to start-up the boilers and provide operator training to on-site boiler operators. Halfway through the rental term the customer requested additional equipment for back-up and to help speed up the project. Nationwide Boiler quickly responded and shipped an additional 70,000 lb/hr trailer-mounted boiler and 140,000 lb/hr mobile feedwater van to Qatar aboard the Antonov 124-100M international cargo plane.
The rental equipment remained in Qatar on the job for two years and the units easily met the customer's performance expectations. Overall, the job was a success and Nationwide Boiler gained another satisfied customer.
